The International Olympic Committee (IOC) is on the verge of taking a historic step in considering the inclusion of the eSports Olympic Games for 2028. This proposal will be discussed at the next IOC session, which will be held in the framework of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

IOC President Thomas Bach said, "With the addition of eSports, we are expanding the relevance of the Olympic Games in the digital age, recognizing the rigorous training and dedication of eSports players as comparable to that of traditional athletes."

Innovation and New Horizons

Since 2018, the IOC has been exploring the relationship with the eSports community, starting with the eSports Forum in Lausanne and continuing with successful events such as the Olympic eSports Week in Singapore in 2023. This week brought together more than 130 players and attracted millions of spectators, demonstrating the huge potential and growing popularity of eSports.

Independent Structure and Collaborative Potential

The proposal suggests that the eSports Olympic Games be organized under an independent and fully dedicated structure, separate from the organizational and financial model of the traditional Olympic Games. In addition, the IOC is in talks with several cities interested in hosting this innovative event.

David Lappartient, chairman of the IOC eSports Commission, emphasized, "The eSports Olympic Games will not only open up new opportunities for players and fans, but will also promote Olympic values in the digital world."

With this initiative, the IOC is once again demonstrating its commitment to the evolution of sport and adaptation to modern times. If the proposal is approved, we could be witnessing the birth of a new era in Olympic competition.
